During the first quarter of 2010/11 (from 1 April to 30 June 2010), orders booked by Alstom amounted to €3.1 billion. Sales, at €4.7 billion, were slightly down as compared to the same period of last year¹.

Stockholmståg, the company operating commuter trains in the greater Stockholm area, in Sweden, has awarded Alstom Transport with a maintenance contract worth €107 million over a five-year period, for the maintenance of a fleet of 135 suburban trains.

By its acquisition on 7 June 2010 of Areva T&D’s transmission business, Alstom completes a decisive stage in its development by forming a new sector, named Alstom Grid, to supplement the existing two sectors in power generation and rail transport, Power and Transport. Priced at €2.3 billion, this acquisition gives a new dimension to the Group, which, now with its three activities, achieves sales of more than €23 billion1 and employs more than 96,000 people.


Alstom expands its Very High Speed portfolio adding a new train platform

Alstom unveils a new model of Very High Speed train at the international railway exhibition EXPO Ferroviaria in Turin, Italy. The new platform is added to an already extensive portfolio, ranging from the tilting High Speed trains Pendolino, to the Very High Speed trains Duplex and AGV.


Alstom has inaugurated its first tramway maintenance centre in Reims

MARS, the concession-holder for the Reims MARS tramway and the Manufacturing Consortium which is run by Alstom, have just inaugurated the tramway maintenance centre for the Greater Reims urban area. The event was held in the presence of Adeline Hazan - mayor of Reims and president of Reims Métropole - and Jean-Pierre Belfie, mayor of Bezannes, the commune in which the facility has been built.


Alstom delivers first renovated coaches for the Bucharest Metro

On 26 May, the first two renovated coaches of the Bucharest Metro left Alstom Transport’s site in Reichshoffen. After a 5-day trip across Germany, Austria, Hungary and then the Carpathian mountains in Romania, the coaches will be delivered to Metrorex’s workshop in Bucharest.


Alstom opens state-of-the-art train maintenance facility in Liverpool, U.K.— For the West Coast Main Line Pendolino

Alstom inaugurated a new train maintenance centre in Edge Hill, Liverpool, in the presence of Councillor Mike Storey CBE, Lord Mayor of Liverpool. The creation of the facility recognises the importance of the Liverpool site in Alstom’s maintenance operations carried out on the Pendolino fleet for Virgin Trains.


Alstom launches the first Citadis tramway tests in Algiers

On May 15, 2010, Alstom launched the first Citadis tramway tests in Algiers—in the presence of Amar Tou, the Algerian Minister of Transport. The test track in Bordj El Kiffan (in the suburbs of the Algerian capital) is nearly 2 kilometres long.


The second high speed Allegro train for the Helsinki-St Petersburg line has arrived in Finland

The second of four high speed Allegro trains, which will serve the Helsinki-St Petersburg line, arrived in the port of Helsinki by ship on 30 April. It was manufactured at Alstom’s Savigliano site, and left the Italian port of Vado Ligure on 20 April.


Alstom to supply 12 Coradia Nordic suburban trains to Sweden - A contract worth over €100 million

The Stockholm public transports authorities SL have placed a €102 million order with Alstom for 12 new Coradia Nordic suburban trains. These trains will be used on the Stockholm-Uppsala line.
These Coradia Nordic trains are of EMU type (Electric Multiple Unit) and have six articulated carriages. They are fitted with asynchronous electrical motors and travel at speeds of up to 160 kph. The trainsets will be designed and assembled at Alstom’s Salzgitter site in Germany while the traction system and the auxiliary converters will be respectively constructed at the Alstom sites in Tarbes, France and in Charleroi, Belgium . The trains will be delivered in 2012.


In a challenging commercial environment, Alstom posts excellent operational results for the fiscal year 2009/10

Between 1 April 2009 and 31 March 2010, driven by the quality of its backlog, Alstom registered record sales (€19.7 billion) and income from operations (€1.8 billion), up respectively by 5% and 16% over the previous year. The operating margin reached 9.1%, whilst the net result amounted to €1.2 billion (+10%). During the same period, order intake was heavily impacted by the economic recession. At €14.9 billion, orders were down by 39% from the very high level of last year. Alstom generated a free cash flow of €185 million.
