NTV's new AGV are christened
After an online poll on its website, NTV (Nuovo Transporto Viaggiatori) chose “.italo” [‘dot italo’] at the end of March as the official name of its future fleet of AGV trains.
During the pre-selection stage, 37,000 website visitors voiced their opinion on the website, choosing from a short list of names. Then the logo was chosen, inspired by Italian design and new technology, with the dot in front of “italo” implying a reference to the Internet.
In January 2008, Alstom signed a contract with NTV for the delivery of 25 AGV trains. The contract also includes the maintenance of the trains for a period of 30 years. The “.italo” AGVs are due to begin service on the Rome-Naples high-speed line in 2011.
