Some towns have such a unique character that one wants to avoid making obtrusive visible changes.
Such is the case of Nice, and especially of its city centre. In 2004 CANCA (Nice Côte d’Azur urban community) asked ALSTOM to provide the material for three tramway lines covering 40 km of track by 2015, while limiting the number of poles and overhead contact lines to a minimum. Mission accomplished: 20 CITADIS trams equipped with batteries that glide unobtrusively through the town.
In 2007, thanks to this tramway, the people of Nice saw their beloved Place Masséna restored to its original elegance
